More than 100 people infected with norovirus on Caribbean Princess cruise ship

An outbreak of norovirus infection occurred on the Caribbean Princess cruise ship, which departed from Port Everglades in Florida. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), symptoms of the disease were identified in 115 people, including 102 passengers and 13 crew members.
After the first cases were discovered, strict measures were introduced on board to isolate the sick to prevent further spread of the virus. Princess Cruises reported that full disinfection of the vessel was carried out and sanitary measures were strengthened during the voyage.
Norovirus causes severe vomiting and diarrhea and is highly contagious. The virus can be transmitted through direct contact, contaminated surfaces, food, and water. At the same time, experts note that serious complications rarely occur, and symptoms usually disappear within two days.
The company also confirmed that the Caribbean Princess will undergo full sanitization again before its next voyage. The situation has drawn additional attention to sanitary safety issues on cruise ships.
The incident occurred shortly after reports of an outbreak of another dangerous disease on the MV Hondius, where hantavirus cases were previously recorded. Experts note that such cases highlight the vulnerability of cruise ships to the spread of infections in enclosed spaces.
