Buse Savaşkan Receives Another Award
National athlete from the TRNC, Buse Savaşkan, who placed 10th at the Paris Olympic Games, has been honored with yet another award—this time presented on behalf of the Prime Minister.
During an official reception, the award was given to Buse by Hüseyin Cahitoglu, the Deputy Secretary of the Prime Minister and Chair of the General Council of the Sports Department.
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel could not attend the ceremony with Buse Savaşkan due to health issues, having recently been hospitalized.
At the ceremony, Buse was accompanied by Ferhat Sakallı, President of the Athletics Federation; Derya Atamer, General Secretary; and Aslı Aksın, Financial Secretary.
Deputy Prime Minister Cahitoglu extended his heartfelt congratulations to the athlete once again for her achievements.
“Buse's success at the Olympics has inspired hope for our country and its youth. We truly believe that our athlete, who has brought us so much pride and excitement, will win a medal at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles,” stated Hüseyin Cahitoglu.
To recall, Buse Savaşkan was the only athlete from the TRNC to represent her country at the Paris Olympics. The high jumper reached the finals and ultimately secured 10th place, clearing a height of 1.86 meters. Her performance was a historic achievement for the nation, and she was recognized as the Athlete of the Year just last week.
