TRNC police budget of 8.45 billion lira unanimously approved in Lefkoşa

In North Cyprus, the Republic’s Committee on Economy, Finance, Budget and Planning unanimously approved the budget of the Police General Directorate in the amount of 8,452,706,000 Turkish lira in Lefkoşa on November 25. Issues of security, threats against the media, law-and-order raids and the technical needs of the police were discussed at the meeting.

Police Director General Ali Adalıer reported that 1,024 women were subjected to violence in 2024 and 957 in 2025 up to the current date. According to his data, 36 sexual crimes against children were recorded in 2024 and 28 in 2025.

Adalıer noted that the police have defined a “roadmap” for personnel, legislation, social guarantees, buildings, transport, technical equipment and training. The police employ 2,349 officers; 67% work in shifts without the corresponding allowances. He pointed out the need to resolve overtime payments and to renew the vehicle fleet, which is difficult within the current budget.

According to Adalıer, maintenance of the new photo and video speed cameras falls under the responsibility of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. Raids to ensure public order will continue. On his initiative, the incentive fund was increased by 450,000 lira.

Representatives of the TRNC Police Retirees Association also took part in the meeting. Committee Chair Resmiye Eroğlu Canaltay emphasized commitment to combating violence against women. Deputies of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) and the National Unity Party (UBP) asked questions regarding police funding, equipment and staffing.
