Environmentalists Condemn Stone Quarrying in Alagadi Special Protection Area
The “Green World” movement and the Association of Biologists have issued a strong condemnation of the Mining and Geological Department’s recent approval of stone quarrying within the Alagadi Special Protection Area.
Environmental advocates emphasized that this region is vital for biodiversity, describing the decision as “both illegal and a breach of moral responsibility.” The statement also underscored Alagadi's protected status as an ecologically significant area.
“This is a region with an ecosystem that has evolved over millions of years. We refuse to stand by and watch a protected natural area be destroyed by the stroke of a single pen,” read the activists' statement.
The statement further noted that the permit for stone extraction was granted to support a military-tourism facility.
Environmentalists declared that such a decision is “unacceptable from both legal and ethical standpoints” and called on authorities to reverse it.
