Erdogan Expresses Condolences Following Death of Khamenei
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has issued a statement regarding the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who reportedly died as a result of US and Israeli attacks.
The statement was released on March 1, 2026.
In his address, Erdogan noted:
"I received the news of the death of the Supreme Leader of our neighbor Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in yesterday's attacks with regret. I ask the Almighty for His mercy upon him, express my condolences to the brotherly Iranian people, and convey words of support on behalf of my state and the people of Turkey.
We will resolutely continue our efforts to return to diplomacy, end the conflict in the region, and restore the peace and stability that the peoples of our region deserve."
Ankara emphasized its support for de-escalation and a diplomatic resolution to the conflict in the Middle East.
