Erdogan emphasizes importance of TRNC participation in Turkic States summit
Turkish President Erdogan stated that Ankara welcomes the participation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as an observer at the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) summit, which will be held in Turkistan.
Speaking in Astana after negotiations with Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Erdogan emphasized that the presence of the TRNC at the summit holds special significance for the Turkic world.
«We are glad that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will be represented as an observer at our summit,» the Turkish leader stated.
According to Erdogan, Turkey intends to further strengthen cooperation with Turkic states in the fields of trade, transport, energy, defense industry, education, and technology. He paid special attention to the development of the Caspian East-West Transit Corridor, which Ankara views as a modern analogue of the Silk Road.
The Turkish President noted that this route is becoming increasingly important not only for cargo transportation but also for the transport of energy resources to Europe. Ankara plans to develop the project jointly with Kazakhstan and other partners.
During the visit, the parties also discussed joint investment projects, expansion of economic ties, and cooperation in the defense sector. Additionally, Erdogan announced the start of work on opening Maarif Foundation schools in Astana and Almaty.
Separately, the Turkish leader thanked Kazakhstan for its support following the devastating 2023 earthquakes and noted the symbolic significance of the new school built by Kazakhstan in Nurdagi, Turkey.
The Organization of Turkic States summit will take place on May 15 in Turkistan and will be dedicated to artificial intelligence and digital development. Heads of state and government of OTS member and observer countries will participate in the event.
