On April 23, 2026, at 09:14 as reported, the 5th President of Northern Cyprus, Ersin Tatar, sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of April 23 — National Sovereignty and Children's Day.

In his address, Tatar emphasized that April 23, 1920, became a historical milestone when the will of the people became a reality, and sovereignty was proclaimed as an inherent right belonging to the people without any conditions.

Tatar noted that this special event holds additional significance as a day that the founder of the Republic of Türkiye, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, gifted to children. According to him, such symbolism reflects a deep trust in children — the future of the country and the main guarantee of tomorrow.

The head of state also reminded that throughout history, the Turkish Cypriot people have consistently defended their will, freedom, and right to sovereignty. He pointed out that this struggle was conducted persistently and led to today's results.

Separately, Tatar stated that during his presidential term, he has consistently defended a just position on the issue of sovereign equality for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and equal international status, and will continue this work. Furthermore, diplomatic efforts for recognition aim to ensure the Turkish Cypriot people take the place they deserve in the international arena.

In conclusion, he congratulated all citizens, especially children, on the holiday, honoring the memory of the martyrs with mercy and the veterans with gratitude.
