TRNC citizens, relatives of martyrs, veterans and their families to fly to Turkey with 50% discount

A protocol signed between the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the Ministry of Finance of the TRNC, and the Turkish Airlines representation introduces a 50% discount on the net cost of economy-class tickets for flights between Turkey and the TRNC. The discount is granted upon presenting the relevant ID card when purchasing the ticket.

The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The protocol was signed by Minister of Labour Sadık Gardiyanoğlu, Minister of Finance Özdemir Berova, and Turkish Airlines TRNC representative Pınar Ayvaz Arıkan. Prime Minister Ünal Üstel also attended.

In his speech, Üstel thanked the families of martyrs and veterans for their contribution to the Turkish Cypriot people's struggle for freedom. He stressed that the achievements today were made possible thanks to Turkey’s support and assured that the state would continue to work for these citizens. He noted that the law recognizing veteran status has already been passed and that the distribution of IDs will begin.

The Prime Minister also reminded about the agreement with A Jet: starting from August 3, tickets from the TRNC to Turkey will not exceed 6,000 lira, and tickets from London to the TRNC will cost no more than 250 euros.

Finance Minister Özdemir Berova described the protocol as an important step and emphasized the value of supporting the families of martyrs and veterans. She added that Turkish Airlines showed respect for the people and the country by participating in the project.

Labour Minister Sadık Gardiyanoğlu called the signing day a symbol of honour and pride. He said the project holds special meaning for the families of martyrs and wished it would bring benefits.

Turkish Airlines TRNC manager Pınar Ayvaz Arıkan said the company aimed to provide the same benefits as in Turkey and hoped their participation in the project would be a valuable contribution.

According to the protocol, TRNC citizens who are veterans or relatives of martyrs and veterans will receive a 50% discount on the net cost of Turkish Airlines tickets on flights between the TRNC and Turkey. This benefit is granted upon presentation of valid ID at the time of ticket purchase.
