KTTO: Strike in Northern Cyprus Should Not Affect Healthcare and Education

The Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Commerce (KTTO) stated on March 29, 2026, that extending the nationwide strike planned for March 30 to the healthcare and education sectors in Northern Cyprus is "unacceptable."

In a written statement, KTTO noted that in conditions of economic crisis, it is expected that part of society expresses dissatisfaction with the proposed measures, but these protests should not lead to the cessation of basic services. "Healthcare is the primary need of our most vulnerable citizens; education is the primary need of our children, who are our future," the statement said.

The document emphasized that discussion of the measures is necessary, but it must be conducted in a way that does not increase the burden on low-income segments of the population or disrupt access to essential services. Amid the threat of disruptions, KTTO calls for caution and responsibility from all parties.

Residents are advised to monitor official announcements from authorities and unions: various information sources mention that the KAMUSEN and KTAMS unions plan a general strike at their enterprises, and the teachers' union KTÖS plans a strike in schools. If necessary, verify the operation of medical and educational institutions in advance.
