The Personal Representative of the UN Secretary-General has arrived in Cyprus
The Personal Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) has arrived in Cyprus. Maria Angela Olguin Cuéllar will hold meetings with the leaders of both communities on the island.
According to Greek sources, on January 30 at 9:00, the Colombian diplomat will meet with the President of the Greek Cypriot Administration, Nikos Christodoulides, and at 11:00, she will hold talks with the leader of the TRNC, Ersin Tatar.
During her visit to Cyprus, Maria Angela Olguin Cuéllar will seek points of convergence to resume negotiations between the two sides. According to a statement from the UN Peacekeeping Forces representative, in addition to negotiations with the two leaders, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative will establish various contacts on the island, also meeting with representatives of non-governmental organizations, including women's and youth organizations.
It is worth recalling that it was previously reported that UN Secretary-General António Guterres officially appointed his Personal Representative in Cyprus. As expected, this position was given to former Colombian Foreign Minister Maria Angela Olguin Cuéllar. She assumed her duties on January 1.
