Large-scale road checks in TRNC: over 400 drivers held accountable

The TRNC police conducted large-scale road checks across the country, during which hundreds of traffic violations were detected. Following the raids, legal action was initiated against 407 drivers, and 57 vehicles were impounded.

According to the police press service, traffic officers checked a total of 2,324 drivers in a single night. The most common violation was speeding, with 133 cases recorded.

In addition, 12 drivers were detained for driving under the influence of alcohol. Another six people were driving without a license and insurance. The checks also revealed 15 uninsured vehicles, 15 vehicles without a valid inspection, and 48 cars on the road without registration documents.

Other violations included using mobile phones while driving, ignoring traffic lights and road signs, and not wearing seat belts. One motorcyclist was stopped for riding without a protective helmet, and another driver for reckless driving.

The police also noted that 150 drivers were penalized under the category of “other traffic violations.”

The department emphasized that such checks will continue to improve road safety and prevent accidents.
