Restoration of the Church of Flamudi Completed in Cyprus
The restoration of the Church of St. George in the village of Flamudi, located on the Karpas Peninsula, has been completed. This was announced by Sotiris Ktoris, co-chair of the Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage.
The restoration was based on an architectural study carried out by Ozge Ozbekoglu and Christos Shiamaris, under the guidance of the United Nations Development Programme, and with financial support from the European Union.
The aim of the project was to "reconcile the past with the future, invest in a vision of Cyprus that honors its roots, while building bridges of peace and reconciliation for future generations."
In the meantime, co-chair of the committee, Ali Tuncay, reached out to the residents of Kalavasos, a village in the Larnaca district, asking them to share the history of the village mosque and other related stories with the committee.
He added that the reconstruction of the Kalavasos mosque is nearly complete. Once the restoration work is finished at Kalavasos, conservation efforts will begin at the mosque in the neighboring village of Alaminos.
