22nd Cyprus Theatre Festival to take place in Northern Cyprus

The 22nd Cyprus Theatre Festival will take place in Lefkoşa, Girne, and Famagusta from June 1 to 30. This year, the event will be held under the theme "Resisting by Remaining Human".

The festival is organized by the municipalities of Girne, Lefkoşa, and Famagusta. The program features 18 performances from 11 theatre companies. All plays will start at 20:30.

Tickets have gone on sale, with prices starting from 400 TL.

The presentation of the festival took place at the Lefkoşa Belediye Tiyatrosu, attended by the mayors of the three cities, theatre representatives, and cultural figures.

Lefkoşa Mayor Mehmet Harmancı stated that even during the most difficult periods, the organizers never considered canceling the festival, emphasizing the importance of theatre and art in the modern world.

Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul noted that cultural and artistic events play a vital role in social development and strengthening urban identity.

As part of the festival, theatre companies from Turkey will visit Northern Cyprus, and some productions will be linked to joint cultural projects between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots.

Among the plays in the program are:

  • "Büyük Romulus" — Istanbul Devlet Tiyatrosu;
  • "Bir Yaz Gecesi Rüyası" — Manisa Şehir Tiyatrosu;
  • "Baba" — Oyun Atölyesi;
  • "Ahududu" — Tiyatrokare;
  • "Huysuz" — Antalya Şehir Tiyatrosu, and others.
