On January 15, ceremonial and commemorative events will take place in Northern Cyprus to mark the 42nd anniversary of the death of Dr. Fazıl Küçük — a leader of the Turkish Cypriots’ struggle for existence, freedom, and political rights.

According to the program published by the Central Committee for the Celebration of National Days, the first ceremony will begin at 10:26 at the Dr. Fazıl Küçük Anıtı memorial in Lefkoşa. The event will include a wreath-laying ceremony, a moment of silence, and the performance of the national anthem. Flags will be raised and then lowered to half-mast as a sign of mourning. A commemorative speech will be delivered by President Tufan Erhürman.

The continuation of the program is scheduled for 11:15 at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM). There, a speech will be delivered by the leader’s granddaughter, Sevim Küçük, and thematic performances will be presented by the choir and creative group of the Meral Vedat Ertüngü High School.

The authorities called on residents of Northern Cyprus to take part in the commemorative events and honor the memory of a person who played a key role in shaping the national identity of the Turkish Cypriot community.
