Water prices have risen again in Northern Cyprus: tariffs increased by up to 50%
After nearly a seven-month pause, Northern Cyprus has once again raised tariffs for drinking and household water. The decision of the Council of Ministers was published on January 20 in the Official Gazette and took effect the same day.
According to the adopted decision:
- Water supplied from Turkey increased by 34.03% —
from 18.28 TL to 24.50 TL per cubic meter.
The same tariff will also apply to municipalities that, despite receiving Turkish water, continue to use local sources. - Water from local sources managed by municipalities rose by 50% —
from 7 TL to 10.50 TL per cubic meter. - Local sources managed by the Water Resources Administration increased by 35.29% —
from 17 TL to 23 TL per cubic meter. - Water for agricultural needs increased by 22.81% —
from 8.55 TL to 10.50 TL per cubic meter.
The increase affects payments from municipalities to the state, but tariffs for households are approved with government consent. It is expected that the price increase will soon be reflected in household bills.
The last water price increase was on June 15, 2025 — at that time, tariffs for water from Turkey rose by 100%, and tariffs for local water sources increased by more than 130%.
