TRNC Parliament Approves Record-High Budget for the Ministry of Health
The General Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has approved the 2025 budget for the Ministry of Health, amounting to 12 billion 859 million 721 thousand Turkish lira, with a majority vote.

Health Minister Hakan Dinçyürek emphasized that this is the largest budget allocation in the country’s history for the ministry. However, it was prepared with a record deficit, reflecting the growing challenges in the healthcare sector.
One of the main points of debate during the session was the impact of rapid and uncontrolled population growth on public health. Opposition party representatives argued that the number of intensive care beds available suggests that "the officially reported population figures are far from accurate." They also accused the government of "continuing to avoid conducting a proper population census."
Additionally, it was reported that emergency departments across the country treated 225,000 patients this year, further highlighting the strain on the healthcare system.
After extensive discussions, the Ministry of Health’s 2025 budget was approved by the majority.
In the same session, the following budgets were also passed:
- Court of Audit: 140 million Turkish lira.
- Judiciary: 927 million 978 thousand 300 Turkish lira.
- Higher Education Planning, Accreditation, Audit, and Coordination Board (YÖDAK): 62 million 871 thousand Turkish lira.
