In Famagusta, a man posed as a police officer and tried to “borrow” money at a currency exchange

In Famagusta, a 36-year-old man was detained on suspicion of attempting fraud at a currency exchange office. According to the investigation, he came to an office on İsmet İnönü Boulevard and, posing as a police officer, asked the staff to “lend” him money.
After the request, employees reviewed CCTV footage and identified the visitor. The very next day, the suspect was arrested in Lefkoşa.
The case is being considered under the charge of impersonating a police officer (without having such status). As the investigation has only just begun and witness statements and additional checks are still required, the court authorized the man’s detention for another three days.
