The father and grandmother wanted in connection with a child abduction case may have been on Northern Cyprus

According to police sources, the abduction of a child, in which a 43-year-old Russian citizen and his 65-year-old mother are suspected, allegedly took place on the territory of Northern Cyprus.

The case concerns a child the man has with his former wife. According to available information, at the time of the incident the father was living in Northern Cyprus. It is also reported that he is internationally wanted in Russia in connection with a number of serious criminal cases.

According to investigators, the child and his mother were also living in Northern Cyprus. Checks are ongoing with regard to the 65-year-old grandmother — it has not yet been established whether she lived there permanently. At the same time, there is information that after the alleged abduction, the father, grandmother and child were seen in the Republic of Cyprus.

Police officers carried out checks and searches at a number of locations; however, the whereabouts of the wanted persons have not yet been established. Search operations are continuing.

Law enforcement authorities do not rule out that the suspects may have left the scene shortly after the incident and are currently in hiding
