Seminars on folk dance costumes held in Famagusta and Lefkoşa
The Turkish Cypriot Folk Dances Federation held seminars on folk dance costumes on December 13–14 in Famagusta and Lefkoşa in Northern Cyprus. On December 13, the events took place at the Rauf Raif Denktaş Palace of Culture and Congresses in Famagusta; on December 14, at the Atatürk Cultural Center in Lefkoşa. Teachers, dancers, and cultural volunteers took part in the seminars.
During the sessions, the historical roots of the costumes, their authentic features, rules for proper wearing, use of accessories, and typical mistakes made on stage were discussed. Participants were also introduced to approaches for preserving costume authenticity in performances.
The organizers emphasized the importance of accurate representation of cultural heritage and its transmission to future generations. The Federation thanked the institutions and individuals who contributed to the organization of the seminars.
According to the Federation’s statement, costumes and cultural values will continue to be preserved through the dissemination of accurate information, increased awareness, and the adoption of a sustainable approach. For folk groups and enthusiasts in Northern Cyprus, this means strengthening the practice of authentic performance and a more accurate presentation of traditions on stage.
