Court sets bail for driver in fatal accident on Degirmenlik — Girne road
The court in Lefkosia considered the case of a fatal traffic accident that occurred on September 29, 2025, around 22:30 on the Degirmenlik — Girne highway in Northern Cyprus. The suspect C.Ç (31 years old) was brought back to court after being detained.
According to police sergeant Yusuf Özenci, C.Ç was driving from Girne towards Degirmenlik and, upon approaching the Tas Ocakları area, carelessly veered to the right. The driver of the oncoming car, LZ 354, Ali Osman Bayram, attempted to swerve left to avoid the collision, resulting in a head-on crash between the two vehicles.
The driver of LZ 354, Ali Osman Bayram, died at the scene. The passenger of the same car, Oguzhan Koçyigit, was taken to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Lefkosia; treatment continues, and his life is not in danger. To determine the causes of the accident, police sent requests to the Department of Highways and the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers and are awaiting their reports.
The autopsy revealed that the rupture of a Takata airbag and the ejection of a metal fragment caused a penetrating skull injury that led to death. Judge Şevket Gazi prohibited the suspect from leaving the country, ordered him to report to the police once a week, set bail at 50,000 Turkish lira in cash, and imposed surety with a signed bail bond of 800,000 Turkish lira.
