Northern Cyprus taxi drivers threaten protest over tariffs
The head of the Turkish Cypriot Taxi Drivers' Associations Federation, Murat Karalar, stated that the sector could begin protests if authorities do not take action by Monday.
In a written statement, Karalar addressed the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Erhan Arıklı, asking when a new member of the licensing commission would be appointed and when the commission would be able to meet to make decisions.
According to him, the taxi sector has been waiting for decisions since January, and the increase in taximeter tariffs has still not been approved.
Karalar claims that due to the delay in the decision, drivers' rights have been violated for more than three months. He warned that if the situation does not change by Monday, industry representatives will hold a protest at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
