Tourists Detained in Iskele After Live Bullet Found at Hotel

Two tourists who arrived in the TRNC for a vacation were detained in the Iskele region after a live bullet was found during a security check at their hotel.

The incident occurred on May 15 during guest registration at the hotel. As police officer Mehmet Yavaşerler stated in court, while luggage was passing through the X-ray machine, security personnel noticed a suspicious object in the bag of one of the tourists.

During the inspection, a single live 9mm caliber bullet was found in a wallet inside the bag of the suspect T.D. The police were immediately notified of the discovery.

The investigation established a link to the incident with the second suspect, H.I.D., after which both were detained and brought to court.

According to the police, while giving her statement, T.D. claimed that the bullet had been given to her by her spouse H.I.D. back in 2020, when the couple had visited the island as tourists.

Law enforcement authorities noted that the investigation is at an initial stage. The police need to gather additional statements and conduct the necessary checks.

The court granted the prosecution's request and ordered the suspects to remain in custody for two days for the investigation to continue.
