Cholangioscopy Device Put into Operation at Famagusta Hospital
A new cholangioscopy device, acquired through the initiative of the TRNC Ministry of Health, has begun operation at the Famagusta State Hospital.
According to the Ministry of Health, the system allows for endoscopic examination of the bile ducts and provides direct visualization of difficult-to-diagnose areas — both the common bile duct and the intrahepatic bile channels.
Since the equipment was put into operation over the last month, assistance has been provided to three patients. Following the examinations, accurate diagnoses were made and appropriate treatments were prescribed.
The procedures were performed by the Chief Physician of the Gazimağusa State Hospital, Dr. Mustafa Kalfaoğlu.
The department recalled that ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) procedures have been performed at the hospital since 2007. During this time, medical assistance has been provided to approximately 3,650 patients.
The new cholangioscope is used during ERCP — it is inserted into the bile ducts, allowing for direct endoscopic inspection and, if necessary, biopsy. The ministry emphasized that this high-tech equipment significantly expands the diagnostic capabilities of the institution.
