Patient attacks nurse in hospital after traffic accident

In Famagusta, an incident of violence against medical staff occurred in a public hospital. According to the chairman of the Memur-Sen union, Göktürk Ötüken, a man who was brought to the hospital after a traffic accident attacked a nurse.
Ötüken stated that the patient underwent all necessary examinations, but claimed that he did not receive what he considered adequate treatment. The man then first verbally abused a staff member and subsequently spat on her, which is considered a physical assault.
The incident was reported to the police, and the attacker was detained. Memur-Sen emphasized that this is yet another alarming example of growing aggression toward healthcare workers.
The union strongly condemned the incident and warned that, in the absence of effective measures by the authorities to protect medical personnel, it reserves the right to resort to all legal forms of protest, including strikes.
