“Shock” strikes threatened at Ercan: unions set a deadline until the end of January

Unions have warned of possible sudden strikes at Ercan Havalimanı if serious problems in the operation of the airport’s fire service are not resolved by the end of January.
The head of KTAMS, Güven Bengihan, stated that the equipment and facilities of the fire department have for years failed to meet international standards. According to him:
- equipment in use is over 20 years old and does not meet ICAO requirements;
- fire engines and rescue equipment regularly break down;
- some personnel are still not provided with protective uniforms;
- the fire service building operates on temporary electricity, and safety systems are malfunctioning.
Unions believe that responsibility is being shifted between the contractor and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. If measures are not taken, “shock” protest actions may occur in February, potentially affecting airport operations.
