On January 16, 2026, in Lefkoşa, Northern Cyprus, at the Concord Hotel, the launch ceremony for the "Akıllı Ulaşım Sistemi — Elektronik Denetim ve Akıllı Kavşak" project took place. Participants included Turkey's Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, the Speaker of the Republic Ziya Öztürkler, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, former President Ersin Tatar, the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri, Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Peacekeeping Forces Major General Sebahattin Kılınç, Commander of Security Forces Major General İlker Görgülü, ministers, and deputies.
Official speeches were delivered by RadarSan CEO Serhat Doğan, Head of Turkish Defense Industry Haluk Görgün, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel. A presentation video of the project was shown during the event.
According to official statements, the project is financed by Turkey with approximately $4.7 million. The project includes 130 fixed and 20 mobile speed monitoring systems — a total of 150 modern devices integrated into a centralized monitoring system across the island. The cameras are equipped with artificial intelligence technologies to recognize vehicles; they have been operating in test mode for the past four months without issuing mass fines. Simultaneously, work has been initiated to provide regulatory support for the system. Authorities stated that the project's goal is to improve road safety and order, not merely to impose fines.
