Mobile phone seller arrested in Nicosia for stealing a smartphone and attempting to flee
A sales consultant at a mobile phone shop appeared in court in Nicosia, accused of theft of entrusted property. According to the investigation, in January 2026 the employee secretly sold an iPhone 17 Pro belonging to the shop, worth €4000, to a third-party company for $3200. After the business owner filed a complaint, the suspect was declared wanted and detained on 28 May while attempting to leave Northern Cyprus. In court, the detainee completely denied the charges, saying that his employer had instead conspired against him and sent threats in order to force him to resign. Judge Nuray Nejdett ordered that the man be remanded in custody for 3 days to verify receipts, messages and collect testimony.
