Truck driver held accountable for oil spill on highway in Lefkoşa

The police have identified the driver of a truck who posed a threat to road safety after spilling motor oil on the Güzelyurt — Lefkoşa highway.

The incident occurred on the section between the Gönyeli Ağıllar roundabout and the traffic lights near the Atatürk Sports Hall. According to the police, motor oil was leaking from the truck while it was in motion, causing the road surface to become slippery and dangerous for drivers.

Immediately after the incident, the police warned motorists to exercise caution and reduce their speed on this section of the road.

During the investigation, Nicosia traffic police officers established that the driver continued to travel despite the engine oil leak, thereby endangering other road users.

The identity of the driver was established, and an administrative protocol was subsequently drawn up against him for violating road safety regulations.

The police remind that the technical condition of vehicles is the responsibility of drivers and owners, and such incidents can lead to serious accidents and threaten human lives.
