Minister of Labour and Social Security Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu announced that the first meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission in Northern Cyprus has concluded, and the second meeting has been scheduled for January 7. The statement was published on December 26, 2025.
According to Hasipoğlu, the first meeting was held in a mature, constructive and calm atmosphere. He noted that negotiations, which usually begin in January, were brought forward this time, and during the meeting the positions of both employers and employees were heard.
The minister emphasized that the basic philosophy of the commission is to ensure an income that allows workers to live a dignified life, while at the same time safeguarding the production and labour interests of employers. Hasipoğlu added that the commission’s goal is to determine the minimum wage through consensus between the parties; reaching an agreement would be viewed positively.
For residents of Northern Cyprus, this means that a final decision on the minimum wage is planned for mid-January, with the next key discussion taking place at the second meeting on January 7.
