In four months, almost 10,000 new cars have appeared on the roads of Northern Cyprus

The number of cars on the roads of Northern Cyprus continues to grow rapidly. According to the Department of Road Transport of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, by the end of August 2025, there were 435,347 registered vehicles in the country, whereas at the end of April this figure stood at 425,754.
Thus, in just four months, the vehicle fleet increased by 9,593 units, corresponding to a growth of 2.2%.
Main load — on passenger cars and motorcycles
The largest increase came from passenger cars: their number rose by 5,656, reaching 263,550.
Next come estate models (station wagons) — plus 1,291 vehicles, totaling 21,320.
The number of motorcycles increased by 723, reaching 40,469.
Growth was also recorded among double-cab pickups (+682, total 15,906) and tractors (+111, total 12,335).
Petrol cars lead again

They are followed by diesel cars, which increased by 3,125 — to a total of 144,198.
Popularity of hybrids and electric vehicles grows
The eco-vehicle segment also shows steady growth.
The number of electric cars increased by 204, reaching 2,305, and hybrid cars — by 2,027, to 11,142.
Growth of the vehicle fleet increases pressure on roads
As the number of cars increases, road load also rises, especially during peak hours.
After schools reopened, drivers increasingly face traffic jams, and waiting times on the roads in the morning and evening have noticeably increased.
