The fire claimed the lives of two people and completely destroyed 32 houses, with another 53 buildings damaged. Police are considering arson as a possible cause — witness testimonies indicate potential deliberate ignition.
About 16 settlements remain without power due to extensive damage to the electrical distribution network. Mobile generators have been sent to the affected areas.
Cyprus has requested assistance from the EU through the Civil Protection Mechanism. Aircraft from Jordan, Egypt, Israel, and Spain are involved in extinguishing the three active fire sites.
