Two cars caught fire in Cyprus — in the Engomi area (Nicosia) and in Ayia Napa
Two cars caught fire on Monday in Cyprus: one in the Engomi area of Nicosia at around 19:30, and the other in Ayia Napa slightly earlier, shortly before 16:00.
According to police, in Engomi the fire broke out in a parked vehicle. The owner of the car is a 32-year-old man who said he had parked the vehicle in the morning and had previously noted mechanical problems. The fire service extinguished the blaze; the front part of the car sustained significant damage. The scene was secured, and further investigative actions are expected in the morning to determine the cause of the fire. The investigation involves the Nicosia Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID Nicosia).
In the second case, in Ayia Napa, the fire engulfed a car parked in the parking area of an apartment building. The fire was extinguished by the owner with the help of neighbors; the vehicle was completely destroyed. Following inspections carried out by the police, fire service, and the Electromechanical Services Department, arson was ruled out: the cause of the fire was a short circuit in the engine starter. The investigation is being conducted by the Ayia Napa police station.
