Citizens of Cyprus Will Soon Visit the USA Without Needing a Visa
The Republic of Cyprus is in the final stages of implementing a visa waiver program with the USA. President Nicos Anastasiades made this announcement.
Addressing the cabinet, the president lauded the "historic nature" of the strategic dialogue between Cyprus and the USA, urging expedited efforts to finalize the agreement.
"This involves multiple ministries and issues such as energy, security, trade, attracting investments, research and technology, as well as culture, making it essential for each minister to be involved in this process," stated Nicos Anastasiades.
Once the visa waiver program for Cypriot citizens visiting the USA is established, Cyprus will join the list of 41 states currently eligible for the US Visa Waiver Program (VWP). Twenty-four countries on this list are EU members.
After the agreement is signed, Cypriot citizens intending to stay in the USA for up to 90 days per visit will apply through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) instead of a visa application.
Travelers using ESTA must possess a fully valid biometric passport and provide evidence of a return or onward ticket.
Citizens from countries covered by the visa waiver must still apply for a visa if they have traveled to Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Somalia, or Yemen since March 1, 2011, or to Cuba since January 12, 2021.
