Israel Caps Airfare Prices to Larnaca
Israel’s state airline El Al has introduced price caps for flights from Tel Aviv to Larnaca, Athens, and Vienna. This decision was made following a meeting with Israeli Finance Minister Nir Barkat.
The maximum round-trip fare from Larnaca to Tel Aviv will be set at $199. For flights to Athens, the cap is $299, and for Vienna, it is $349.
Since the conflict in Gaza began, many foreign airlines have suspended flights to and from Israeli international airports in Tel Aviv, Eilat, and Haifa until further notice. This suspension has caused a significant increase in ticket prices for flights operated by both the state airline El Al and private carriers Arkia and ISRAIR.
The meeting aimed to stabilize fares for popular routes in light of the end of summer school holidays and the upcoming Jewish New Year and Sukkot festival in October.
The Israeli government’s intervention in airfare pricing came in response to widespread criticism of the steep price hikes, particularly concerning El Al.
