Cyprus expands housing program: 277 more young couples to receive subsidies
The Cyprus government has announced additional funding for the youth housing program. Interior Minister Konstantinos Ioannou reported the allocation of approximately 11 million euros, which will support an additional 277 young couples who applied for subsidies.
Initially, the program provided assistance of up to 50,000 euros for 400 recipients. However, high interest — more than 1,000 applications — prompted the authorities to expand the initiative. Currently, the first 400 applicants have already been approved, with 14.5 million euros allocated to them.
According to the minister, the new decision will cover all applications that meet the established criteria. This, in his opinion, confirms the state's intention to genuinely support young people in purchasing housing.
The program is part of a broader housing policy aimed at increasing affordable housing, especially in cities and suburbs, as well as increasing the purchasing power of young families and socially vulnerable groups.
The issue of affordable housing remains a priority not only for Cyprus but also for the European Union. This topic is expected to be one of the key themes at the informal meeting of EU ministers to be held on May 12 in Nicosia.
