Cyprus strengthens role in European security: Christodoulides attends EPC summit in Yerevan
President Nikos Christodoulides travels to Yerevan on Sunday to participate in the European Political Community (EPC) summit — a key platform for political dialogue on the future of Europe.
For the first time, Cyprus is playing a special role at the forum's plenary session: Christodoulides will act as the coordinator for the discussion on European security issues and will also deliver the closing remarks. The debate will involve leaders from the UK, France, Italy, and the President of the European Commission.
The EPC forum was established in 2022 following the start of the war in Ukraine and has become a venue for strategic discussions on security, economy, and political coordination in Europe.
Special attention at the summit will be given to defense and strengthening the European Union's deterrence potential. These topics are also among the priorities of the EU Council presidency being promoted by Cyprus.
In addition to security, the President will participate in discussions on European economic connectivity, as well as separate meetings dedicated to Moldova and the fight against drug trafficking in Europe.
On the sidelines of the summit, Christodoulides has scheduled bilateral talks with heads of state and leaders of international organizations, providing Cyprus with an additional opportunity to strengthen its diplomatic positions.
The accompanying delegation includes Deputy Government Spokesman Yiannis Antoniou and representatives from the President's diplomatic office.
Cyprus's participation in such a high-level format is seen as a signal of its growing role in European security policy and an attempt to more actively influence the formation of a common EU strategy amid increasing geopolitical instability.
