In Larnaca, preparations are underway for a large-scale environmental action: on June 7, students, parents, teachers, and volunteers will try to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest line of AA batteries.

The project was initiated by the Federation of Parent Associations of Primary Schools of Larnaca. The event will take place at Zouhouri Square and will begin at 17:00.

The organizers plan to lay out a continuous line of more than 33,000 batteries to surpass the current world record — 31,204 batteries, set in 2023 by the U.S. organization Recycle My Battery.

Schoolchildren, families, educators, community organizations, and volunteers from across the Larnaca region will take part in the action. According to the organizers, the goal of the initiative is not only to set a record, but also to draw attention to environmental issues, waste recycling, and public cooperation.

All used batteries will be handed over after the event to AFIS Cyprus for further recycling. The organizers emphasize that in this way the campaign will help remind people of the importance of proper disposal of hazardous waste and environmental protection.

The Federation of Parent Associations said the event combines an educational and environmental message and also demonstrates how joint community efforts can help foster an environmental culture among young people.
