Limassol: a city on the southern coast of Cyprus with history, beaches, and a marina
Limassol is located on the southern coast of Cyprus and combines historical landmarks, coastal infrastructure, and a modern urban environment. The city attracts both tourists and residents with its mix of the old town, marina, and beaches.
In the historic part stands the Medieval Castle, where the royal wedding of Richard the Lionheart took place; the castle now houses a museum. Nearby are the ancient site of Kourion and Kolossi Castle. The surrounding region is known for its wine production, especially Commandaria. Within the city, you’ll find the Archaeological Museum and the Municipal Art Gallery. Festivals are held regularly, including the spring Carnival and the autumn Wine Festival.
The Molos Promenade stretches for kilometers, ideal for walks and cycling. Popular beaches include Dasoudi and Lady’s Mile. Nightlife is concentrated around the Old Port and Saripolou Square. About an hour’s drive from the city are the Troodos Mountains.
It takes about 45 minutes to reach Larnaca and Paphos airports; buses and taxis operate between the airports and the city. Limassol has a developed public transport network, though many residents use private cars. The best months to visit are April–June and September–November. The official language of Cyprus is Greek, English is widely spoken, and the currency is the euro. The city offers modern medical facilities; the standard of living and prices are above the island’s average.
