On September 16, 2025, a large-scale conference dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer will take place at the Old Municipality of Nicosia. The event is organized by Boston Children’s Hospital and the Nicholas Zoe Foundation, with the support of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.

For the first time in Cyprus, the cooperation between the two organizations in the development of non-invasive methods of diagnosing and treating childhood cancer will be publicly presented, particularly the “liquid biopsy” technology. Experts from Boston Children’s Hospital will share the latest achievements and clinical research plans. The Nicholas Zoe Foundation has already provided financial support for the implementation of the new diagnostics — over $200,000 out of the required $500,000 has been raised since the start of the projects.

The evening program will include a video message from the President of Cyprus, speeches by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the medical community, as well as a personal account by foundation founder Alexia Potamiti, whose family lost a child to cancer. The event will conclude with an art auction, where works by Cypriot artists will be sold to support pediatric oncology programs.

For Cyprus residents, this initiative represents the advancement of modern approaches to early diagnosis and treatment of children’s diseases. According to the foundation, new non-invasive methods will allow doctors to detect tumors in time and personalize therapy, reducing side effects and increasing chances of recovery. Such conferences and fundraising activities are becoming an important part of supporting families and fostering medical innovation on the island.
