Six new firefighting aircraft have arrived in Cyprus
The forestry department of the Republic of Cyprus has been enriched with six new firefighting aircraft. The aircraft arrived from Argentina, Egypt, and Australia.
According to local media reports, two planes arrived from Argentina on Monday afternoon, and another two planes came from Australia on Tuesday evening. Additionally, on Tuesday afternoon, two helicopters from Egypt landed on the island with a crew of 17 people.
The cost of leasing two planes is covered by the EU RescEU program. It is expected that the arrival of new aircraft will enhance the capabilities in combating forest fires.
It is worth noting that on Wednesday, firefighting services continue to battle a major forest fire in Paphos. In the firefighting efforts, 10 aircraft are involved, including those arriving from abroad to provide assistance.
