Dangerous e-cigarette liquids seized in Cyprus as part of UN international operation
Extensive inspections and seizures of e-cigarette liquids containing banned narcotic and new synthetic psychotropic substances were conducted in Cyprus. Preliminary results from the State Chemical Laboratory showed that the detected substances pose a serious threat to human health.
The inspections were part of the international operation eVAPER8, organized under the coordination of the United Nations International Narcotics Control Board (INCB). The operation was carried out from November 23 to December 21, 2025, aiming to identify e-liquids that may contain new synthetic drugs.
The Cyprus Customs Department acted as the national coordinator of the operation. The inspections also involved the Cyprus Police (including the Narcotics Unit and the Intellectual Property and Illegal Betting Crimes Unit), the Pharmaceutical Services, the Health Services, and the State Chemical Laboratory.
Authorities emphasize that such substances can have extremely dangerous health effects, especially when inhaled, and pose a serious risk, including for young people. Investigations into the identified cases are ongoing.
