Cyprus warns of fire and injury risks in popular cars

The Cyprus Department of Road Transport has issued a warning regarding potentially dangerous vehicles following a notification from the Consumer Protection Service and the EU early warning system SafetyGate. The warning concerns a number of car models identified with risks of injury and fire.
According to the report, a risk of injury has been found in Mercedes-Benz Actros and Mercedes-Benz eActros trucks manufactured between January 2023 and December 2025. Similar risks have been identified for Mercedes-Benz G-Klasse SUVs produced from January 2024 to August 2025, as well as Ford Capri and Ford Explorer models released in 2025.
A separate warning concerns the risk of fire. It includes Alfa Romeo Tonale cars produced from February 2022 to February 2026. Several models from Peugeot, Citroën, and Opel Frontera are also on the list.
The Department has urged manufacturers, importers, and sellers operating in the Cypriot market to report the presence of these vehicles and take the necessary measures for product recall. Car owners are recommended to contact the official representatives of the brands for instructions and to check if their vehicle is subject to the warning.
Authorities also reminded that if a seller or importer refuses to fulfill their obligations, consumers can file a formal complaint with the Consumer Protection Service through its website.
