Tornadoes and hailstorms hit Limassol: authorities assess damage
Authorities in Limassol are assessing the damage caused by the morning's severe weather. At dawn, tornadoes and thunderstorms with heavy hail hit the city. Many areas were left without power.
According to municipal services, the passing tornadoes and strong hail caused significant material damage to the city. As a result of the elemental rampage, power transmission lines were torn down.
It is reported that overnight, due to the bad weather, various structures were blown off the Limassol - Nicosia highway from Ermasogei in both directions. One person was injured on the highway. Police officers are on duty at the specified section.
According to the police communication department, due to road debris on the Paramithas - Gerasa, Spitallis - Fasulas, Fasulas - Limassol, and Absiou - Maticolonis roads, they are open only to four-wheel-drive vehicles or those equipped with anti-skid chains.
In addition, the coastal road of Limassol, from the Ermasogei police station to Ariadne Street (K-Cineplex road), is closed to traffic due to fallen trees. Drivers are advised to be especially cautious.
It is worth noting that meteorologists announced a storm warning in Cyprus the evening before: a yellow level of threat is in effect in the country.
