The Parliament of Cyprus approved an increase in the maximum height of trucks

Today, the Parliament of Cyprus unanimously approved amendments to carrier regulations, which provide for raising the maximum height of trucks from 4.00 to 4.47 meters. The amendments also align trailer parameters with European standards. As clarified by the Ministry of Transport, the adjustment was necessary, and the minimum road surface height on highways — 4.70 m — allows the implementation of the updated values without risk to infrastructure. The police supported the changes, noting that the old regulations often caused confusion and complicated insurance procedures.
POVEK stated that the new parameters will help address the issue of illegal transport: previously, the police recorded cases of technical non-compliance, and in the event of accidents, drivers lost insurance coverage.
Differences in assessments
EAC expressed objections, noting that their cables are located at a height of 5.20 m, and according to British standards, a safe clearance of 80 cm is required. The company stated that the lines may sag, which, in their opinion, creates an additional risk.
AKEL MP Kostas Kostas indicated that the actual clearance is 72.5 cm; however, this does not pose a threat. He also explained that the mention of "7.5 points" is a technical error, as it actually refers to centimeters.
A Cablenet representative reported that their lines are at a height of 4.80 m; the distance to trucks is about 30 cm. At the same time, the lines are not electrified and do not pose a danger.
Despite EAC's comments, the parliament approved the amendments.
