In Cyprus, law enforcement agencies have detained a third-country national suspected of leading an organized crime group involved in the illegal smuggling of foreigners into the Republic. The operation was the result of an analysis of operational information and is part of a large-scale campaign to combat illegal migration.

According to police, the arrest is linked to targeted actions to identify and dismantle criminal networks facilitating illegal entry and stay in the country. Authorities emphasize that such operations will continue.

Statistics from recent days reflect the intensification of control measures. For instance, on April 29, 9 people were detained, 5 expulsions were carried out, and 11 voluntary departures were recorded. By April 30, the number of expulsions reached 12, and the number of voluntary departures was 43.

In the coming days, from April 30 to May 4, a further 13 expulsions and 32 voluntary returns to their home countries are planned.

The police note that the fight against illegal migration is conducted both through deportations and voluntary departures, as well as through the suppression of the activities of organizers of such schemes. The primary focus is on identifying key figures behind illegal migrant flows.

Cyprus authorities declare their intention to continue strengthening controls to reduce the scale of illegal migration and ensure compliance with legislation.
