Police are investigating two attacks on schools in Limassol and Paphos
Another outbreak of school vandalism has been recorded in the Republic of Cyprus. Police are investigating two attacks by teenagers on educational institutions in Limassol and Paphos.
The first attack occurred on Friday. Four unknown individuals wearing hoodies stormed into the Karmiotissa School in Kato Polemidia just minutes after 6-7-year-old children had left. The vandals assaulted a cleaner, overturned desks, smashed windows, and damaged school computers. Afterward, the attackers stole paints from the art room and used them to paint offensive slogans on the walls.
Police were called to the scene, but by that time, the perpetrators had fled. However, according to local media reports, the vandals returned to the school and continued their mischief-making half an hour after the police left.
According to the police, the stolen paints were later found in a nearby park. The police continue to search for the attackers.
According to the president of the Karmiotissa Primary School Parents' Association, this is not the first such incident recently. In particular, acts of vandalism were recorded last week, and three weeks ago, minors entered the school in the morning and beat a second-grader.
It is also noted that Karmiotissa Primary School is guarded, but the guard is only on duty in the evening hours.
The second attack on a school occurred on Sunday, April 7th, in Paphos. In the middle of the day, perpetrators broke into the 9th Primary School of Paphos “Koupatio,” smashed windows in the classrooms, and caused significant damage to property.
Parents of students are urging all relevant authorities—the school inspectorate, provincial education office, Ministry of Education, and police—to take immediate action to combat the increasing acts of vandalism in educational institutions.
