Police strengthen measures against organized crime following high-profile incidents
The Cyprus Police are strengthening measures against organized crime, focusing on increased patrols and special operational plans, the details of which are not subject to public disclosure. This was reported on ASTRA radio by police spokesperson Vironas Vironos.
He acknowledged that organized crime has recently become bolder, highlighting the police's particular concern that a recent serious incident occurred in the city center — directly near a police station.
Currently, one arrest has already been made in connection with the case, two more individuals are in custody while their possible involvement in the crime is being investigated. In addition, three people have been identified and are wanted, with the police expecting new identifications throughout the day.
Separately, the police spokesperson commented on the situation of a 48-year-old man currently under hospital guard. According to him, this individual is well known to law enforcement and had previously been temporarily released in another criminal case under court consideration.
Speaking about the incident in Tersefanu, where an attempted murder took place, Vironos reported that the case is considered solved. According to the police, the conflict was personal in nature, the victim is in serious condition, and the suspected attacker has already been detained.
The police emphasize that the intensified measures will continue in order to restore citizens’ sense of security and prevent further crimes.
