US Embassy in Nicosia Urges Citizens to Remain Vigilant

The US Embassy in Nicosia has issued a strong recommendation to American citizens in Cyprus to maintain increased vigilance and refrain from visiting the diplomatic mission building except in emergency cases.

The statement notes that information has been received regarding a possible drone threat in the Paphos area.

"Do not come to the Embassy unless it is an emergency. The US Embassy urges American citizens in Cyprus to remain vigilant and follow safety measures," the message states.

Recommendations in Case of Attack

The Embassy also distributed instructions in case of a missile or drone attack:

• at the sound of an explosion or siren, take cover immediately;
• if you are inside a building — move to a lower level, choose a room with the minimum number of exterior walls and windows, close the doors, and take cover near an interior wall;
• if you are outdoors — enter a sturdy building as quickly as possible, and if that is not possible — lie on the ground and cover your head with your hands.

The diplomatic mission warns that even if a missile or drone is intercepted, the debris poses a serious danger. Following a potential incident, citizens are advised to stay away from debris and monitor official announcements.

Furthermore, Americans are advised to avoid areas near military installations, government buildings, and other potential targets, stay away from windows and glass doors, and not go outside unnecessarily during alarms.
