Fire in Nicosia: Suspected arsonist detained, one person hospitalized

A serious fire broke out in a two-story residential building in the old part of Nicosia, resulting in one person being hospitalized. The police have already detained a man suspected of intentional arson.
According to police, the fire originated near the main entrance of one of the apartments, indicating a deliberate act. The suspect, who lived in the same building, was arrested and sent for medical examination. Authorities are investigating the motives.
During firefighting operations, firefighters found a person inside the apartment semi-conscious with burns. The individual was brought outside and handed over to an ambulance team — the victim was transported to Nicosia General Hospital.
Additionally, several residents went to the roof of the building to escape dense smoke. They were evacuated via external ladders and received medical assistance.
The flames damaged the apartment where the fire started as well as two neighboring apartments on the same floor.
The investigation continues, with the police working together with the fire service to determine the full circumstances and motives behind the arson.
