Anonymous Prepaid SIM Cards Will No Longer Be Used in Cyprus from November 10
From November 10, 2025, the use of anonymous prepaid SIM cards will be completely discontinued in Cyprus. All owners must complete the identification procedure by this date, otherwise their numbers will be automatically deactivated.
According to CYTA representative Lefteris Christou, the deadline for identification is November 10, not November 3, as some subscribers had previously mistakenly believed. Starting September 15, mandatory identification for new prepaid packages has been in effect: without personal verification, such SIM cards will not be activated.
Official data show that so far only about 27% of users out of approximately 200,000 prepaid card holders have completed the procedure. Telecom operators are sending personal reminders to those who have not yet completed verification.
After November 10, all unidentified cards will be disconnected, and their owners will not be able to use mobile services until the procedure is completed. This rule applies not only to private users but also to devices and systems where such cards are used technically — for example, in security systems or elevators.
Authorities emphasize that the measures are aimed at increasing security and combating crime, as anonymous SIM cards have often been used by criminals to conceal their activities.
